Director of Data Migration

The Director of Data Migration is a leadership role with a tremendous opportunity to impact our customer base and growth of the organization.   The Data Migration team is a critical component of our new customer onboarding process involving large customer datasets migrating to the SaaS platform from legacy systems.

As the leader of the data migration team you will define and refine a data migration strategy to optimize accuracy, timeliness and quality for clients migrating to the platform.   The Director of Data Migration reports to the VP of Project Management.

The Data Migration team has full responsibility of migrating all customer data for our SaaS customers from their legacy system.  The Director of Data Migration will lead the team to build scalable and maintainable data migration processes to:

  • Extract/explore/visualize source data
  • Map, transform, enrich, & validate source data into our format
  • Visualize the data in our client’s format with a standard report library & dynamic pivots/summaries
  • Import into our client’s SaaS platform

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement repeatable, scalable and innovative data migration strategies.
  • Attract, retain, and train gifted and passionate data professionals. Maintain and improve the onboarding roadmap for new team members.
  • People development activities (i.e. hire, train, evaluate, reward, motivate, coach, create performance improvement plans, termination as necessary, etc.).
  • Implement and oversee appropriate quality assurance and quality control processes.
  • Coach team members on best practices and in making business-driven decisions.
  • Work with leadership to develop KPIs.  Has responsibility to implement KPI’s and ensure that all members of the team are performing within the parameters of those KPI’s. Track results for team members in a supportive, motivating, and fact-driven way.
  • Empower the team to perform their duties by securing resources, eliminating obstacles, and providing guidance, advice, and mentorship.
  • Ensure the team has the resources, information, and processes necessary to deliver effective technical and functional solutions to our clients.
  • Apply agile methodologies to iteratively improve the data migration process.
  • Develop a strong understanding of our clients’ business models and KPI’s.
  • Implement client-driven reporting and data migration needs within the platform with exposure to user interface and database changes.
  • Work closely with clients and teammates to determine innovative solutions to problems experienced when migrating new customers.
  • Develop testing methodologies to ensure quality of customer migrations

REQUIREMENTS

  • BS in CS or related technical field and/or 10+ years of experience is data migration
  • Experience working in a software company – preferably SaaS.
  • Broad knowledge of database systems.
  • Hands-on experience working with live client systems and configuring real production environments.
  • Considerable experience leading projects focused on migration of large sets of data from one platform to another.
  • Directly managed teams, led recruiting, hiring, retention, and training for team members.
  • Extremely organized, with a firm grasp on your calendar and priorities.

  • Languages: C# / VB.NET / ASP.NET / ASP.NET Core / SQL / Lua
  • Databases: Microsoft SQL Server (80%), Redis (10%), MySQL (5%), Postgres (5%)
  • Source Control / Deployment: Git (Bitbucket) / Github, TeamCity, Octopus Deploy, Selenium
  • Project Tracking/Documentation: JIRA, Confluence
  • Customer Support: Zendesk, Confluence
